I paint with a knife, not a brush — mostly.
A palette knife puts the paint down in one movement and leaves it standing. That is why these are thick, and why they change as the light in a room moves across them. Some pieces have brushwork in them too, but the knife does most of the work.
Most of what I paint is somewhere I have actually stood. The sea at Seaford, where my girls walked into the water one evening — I have painted that stretch of water more than once and I am not finished with it. The lake at Daylesford in the quiet before a storm. Phillip Island near dark. Uluru, after the long drive back from the centre. The flowers in my own garden, when the light gets them.
I work in oil and in acrylic, on stretched and deep-edge canvas, and a piece usually takes an afternoon. [ECHO: how you started painting, and anything you want to say about training or the years before this.]
What you are buying
Every painting here is an original, painted by hand. There are no prints and no reproductions, so each piece exists once: when it sells it leaves the wall, and the page stays up showing that it has gone.
Photographs are taken at home in daylight with no colour adjustment, so what you see is close to what arrives. Screens still differ — if the exact colour matters to you, ask and Echo will describe it.
